Scarborough Cricket Club (SCC) is inviting applications for the exciting, newly formed role of Development Officer.


SCC was formed in 1849. Proud of our heritage, the club’s ethos is now all about providing a backdrop for enthusiasts to hone their skills with support from seasoned players and coaches, establishing friendships and enjoying participating with their peers. The role will involve growing the game within Scarborough and the surrounding areas by playing a key role in sustaining and developing a thriving network of talent in the area, enabling the game to grow and diversify.


We are committed to growing a sustainable link between club and school programmes with a view to widening and maximising participation. We will focus on and strengthen the transition from school to club and community opportunities. Furthermore, we will build a Women and Girls section within the Club. The successful post holder will play a key role in all these exciting developments.


Candidates must have a minimum level 2 ECB Coaching Award and will be expected to undertake an enhanced DBS check.


This is a full-time position (37 hours per week) with a salary of £25,000 per annum, pro rata, pension and expenses. Some evening and weekend work is required. The role is based at Scarborough Cricket Club, where office space will be provided. Evidence of coaching and successful delivery within schools and clubs should be provided

Job Title: Development Officer

Location: Scarborough Cricket Club

Responsible To: Head of Recreational Cricket

Purpose of role

Develop and grow the recreational game in Scarborough and surrounding areas by playing a key role in sustaining and developing a thriving network of clubs in the area enabling the game to grow and diversify. 

The link between club and school programmes with a view to maximising participation and a strong focus on transition from school to club and community opportunities.



Key responsibilities


• Be a role model to all children and participants.

• Build relationships with local cricket clubs learning what works well, what could be improved and working together for the mutual benefit of cricket in the area.

• Build relationships with groups in the community who have not previously had an opportunity to take part in cricket and develop a programme which would enable participation.

• Build relationships with parents/ carers ensuring effective communication and there is a mechanism for views to be considered.

• In conjunction with existing school sport structures, promote, develop and deliver quality extra-curricular cricket and club introductory level coaching sessions for schools. 

• Develop a Women & Girls section within the club.

• Assist the clubs Junior Coaching team.

• Lead Coach to the Development team.

• Mentoring of coaches throughout Scarborough Cricket Club.

• Ensure delivery is in line with Scarborough CC plans.

• Produce monthly reports which include for examples numbers coached, migration to clubs, tournament matches.

• To be familiar with and comply with Scarborough Cricket Clubs safeguarding requirements which protect the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.

Qualifications• Minimum level 2 ECB Coaching Award - E

   •    Relevant level 3 qualification or equivalent - D

Experience • Experience of delivering cricket coaching - E

   •    Experience of working with children in a supportive capacity - E

   •    Experience of planning, organising and promoting strategies and initiatives to improve outcomes - E

Knowledge & Skills


• Ability to relate to and build effective relationships with children, parents and other members of the community - E

• An awareness of children’s development and learning and that children all have differing needs - E

• Ability to give effective feedback based on needs of the individual - E

• Knowledge of how to safeguard young people and to be able to deal with any disclosures or concerns in relation to wellbeing - E

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills - E
