Having lost the toss Scarborough were asked to bat first, in a game which started with the full 45 overs intact. Joe Padmore and Jonathan Read were charged with opening the batting, and they endured a steady start in testing conditions.
Read was the first to fall for 6 after getting an edge on a John Gains delivery, which flew through to the Ripon 'keeper Jim Buckley. Padmore soon followed for 14 as he inside edged one onto his pad which deflected onto the stumps to leave Scarborough 25-2.
Despite some resistance from Tom Bruce (11) wickets fell at regular intervals as Ashish Kundi and Theo Smith bagged ducks, in conditions which might have been more suitable for Mallards.
An early tea was taken, but the rain breaks shortened the innings to 40 overs as Nicky Sumpton joined Kawsar Ahmed at the crease with the Seagulls in trouble at 50-6.
The pair nudged their way through the first part of their partnership which still had 22 overs remaining when the two came together. They ran well between the wickets to pick up what runs were on offer as Ahmed made 31 before being trapped LBW bringing to an end a partnership which was worth 50.
Sumpton who finished 25 not out, also combined with Sam Carver (11) to add 24 to the score and was left with Reece Milner when rain meant that the innings was closed after 38 overs, two short of the re-jigged allotment, on 125-8.
There was no play possible after that point as heavy rain continued to fall and Ripon never put their pads on and the teams settled for a draw.
