SOLLY SPORTS YORKSHIRE E.C.B. COUNTY PREMIER CRICKET LEAGUE
The team had a reasonably successful season which saw the encouraging and developing of some younger players to augment with the existing team. There were twelve wins during the season (seven outright and five incomplete) and nine defeats, with the remaining five being either abandoned or cancelled to finish in sixth position.
Andrew Simpson was again the leading run scorer with 1,169 league runs at an average of 55.67, the most number of runs in the league and the only player to reach 1,000, with three centuries and eight fifties. The other main run scorer was Darren Harland with 838 runs at an average of 38.09 with two centuries and five fifties. They qualified for the league batting averages and were placed second and fifteenth respectively.
There were seven centuries scored. In addition to the five mentioned above, the others were scored by Piet Rinke (103 not out) and Joe Padmore (100 not out). The highest was 122 by Andrew Simpson against Sheffield United. He also had scores of 111 not out and 103. Darren Harland scored 100 not out and 100. There were a total of nine century partnerships, five for the first wicket and one each for the second, third, fifth and sixth wickets. The overall highest was 220 unbroken for the first wicket between Andrew Simpson and Darren Harland and was the highest in the league for any wicket during the season. This pair scored the four other first wicket partnership of 146 against Barnsley, 132 against Sheffield United, 131 against Hull and 123 against Driffield Town. Darren Harland and Joe Padmore scored 142 against Hull, Mark Tennant and Joe Padmore scored 138 against Doncaster Town, Piet Rinke and Simon Tennant scored 115 unbroken against Rotherham Town and Mark Tennant and Piet Rinke scored 134 against Driffield Town.
Piet Rinke was the main wicket taker with 48 wickets at an average of 16.23 which placed him sixth in the league bowling averages. This included 8-20 against Barnsley which was the best return for the Club amongst all teams and the second best of the season in the Yorkshire League. He also took 7-35 against Sheffield United. The other main wicket takers were Simon Tennant with 39 wickets at an average of 27.13, Jack Holt (26, 26.31) and Ashley Lyth (24, 20.71).
Mark Tennant had thirty five wicket keeping dismissals (thirty one caught and four stumped) and was the second best in the league.
Andrew Simpson took twelve outfield catches which was thirteen best in the league, followed by Joe Padmore with eleven.
Piet Rinke with 380 runs, 48 wickets and 8 catches was the Club’s best all rounder and the fifth best in the league and Mark Tennant with 483 runs and 35 dismissals was next and thirteenth best in the league.
